Regional Update November 2019
£100,000 raised from Legal Walks in the South East
Throughout September/October Legal Walks were held all across the South and Eastern regions- we are delighted to announce that over £100,000 has been raised!
Organised by the London Legal Support Trust, the Law Society sponsorship of these events ensures that 100% of all funds raised goes to local free legal advice services.
This is a huge achievement and we would like to congratulate everyone who participated!
Find out more about the Law Society's work on access to justice on our website and help us to raise awareness of legal aid by sharing our poster and leaflet which explains the areas of law where legal aid is still available, and how to find help.
We have also published an online guide to legal aid and the eligibility criteria
Diversity & Inclusion Forum in November: Cambridge
Our upcoming Diversity and Inclusion forum will be held in Cambridge on 14 November.
As well as the chance to delve into D&I concerns of those in the room, the participants at our D&I forums hear directly from the Law Society about what we are doing in the D&I sphere and are an opportunity for people to discuss issues of mutual concern relatively informally. The forums are designed to provide shared learning and peer support as well as the opportunity to work more closely with both the Society’s D&I team, and each other.

The Government has commissioned the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) to carry out an in depth analysis of potential future salary thresholds and the range at which they could be set. The Migration Advisory Committee is also looking in very broad terms into what criteria might be relevant to an ‘Australian-style’ points-based system in the UK. The Law Society has not considered the issues relating to a points-based system previously.
